Streets are vital to the community and provide access to employment, schools, parks, and other aspects of our daily lives. We work to ensure safe and clean streets for walkers, bicyclists and the motoring public.

The Engineering Division and the Street Maintenance Division work cooperatively related to important assets like traffic signals, streetlights, guardrails, barricades, pavement surfaces, and rights of way (shoulders, islands, etc.)

Capital Improvement Projects

Project Description

The Bonita Road and Sequoia Boulevard intersection, near I-5, is a busy intersection in Tigard. Washington County will install a traffic signal to improve safety and traffic flow.
Other improvements include:

  • Crosswalks
  • ADA-compliant curb ramps
  • Some storm drain updates

This project is managed by Washington County. The City of Tigard has been and will continue to be involved throughout the duration of the project.

WHY IT’S NEEDED: This is a high-priority safety project. The intersection has a high crash rate and other traffic issues.

STRATEGIC PLAN TIE-IN: This project supports the goal of ensuring transportation investments and improvements provide equitable benefits and impacts to the entire population. It also helps ensure that development and growth support the city’s vision.

TIMELINE: FY24- FY27

Design Start: June 2024
Construction Start (Expected): Summer 2026
Construction Finished (Expected): Winter 26-27

FUNDING SOURCE: Washington County selected this project for the Major Streets Transportation Improvement Program (MSTIP) and will provide most of the funding and project implementation. City of Tigard funding will come from the Transportation Development Tax.

OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE COSTS: This will require increased payments to Washington County to maintain an additional signal and also a slight cost increase for restriping.
