Celebrating Black History Month

  • Date: -

As the late Congressman John Lewis advised,
“Do not get lost in a sea of despair. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year, it is the struggle of a lifetime. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble.”

Theme of Black History Month 2024: African Americans and the Arts

Join the DEI Team and the Association for the Study of African American Life and History to learn more about this call to everyone, inside and outside the academy, to study the history of Black Americans’ responses to establish safe spaces, where Black life can be sustained, fortified, and respected.

Lunch and Learn: Lewis & Clark & York

Filmmaker and historian Ron Craig will share his knowledge of the Corps of Discovery and the accomplishments of York, an enslaved member of the crew. The AARP Oregon Westside Community Action Team volunteers invite you to celebrate Black History month by learning more and indulging your curiosity about this moment in history. A light lunch will be served while supplies last.
