Free Document Shredding

We strongly encourage residents and businesses to cross-shred paperwork containing personal and sensitive information to reduce the risk of identity theft.

The Tigard Police Department, in partnership with Pride Recycling, offers a free shred event on a periodic basis, which allows residents to securely dispose of paper documents containing personal information.

Free Shred Day is April 20, 2024 from 9:00AM to 12:00PM (or until truck is full)

LIMIT: 2 standard paper grocery bags or boxes per car/household.
A standard size is considered 12x7x17". Oversized bags or boxes will be considered two containers. Limits are needed to meet the demand for this free service.

What's Accepted:
We will ONLY accept paper items.
Please remove garbage, binders, cardboard or anything else before you arrive. Please have your items ready for a quick drop off. We cannot keep boxes and will return them to drivers once emptied.

Cost: FREE
Please bring canned food or store-packaged food item to donate to St. Vincent de Paul's food pantry. Cash donations are also accepted.

Date: Saturday April 20, 2024
Time: 9:00AM to 12:00PM or until trucks are full. Wait times typically decrease mid event.
Location: Tigard City Hall parking lot (13125 SW Hall Blvd Tigard, OR 97223).

Identity Theft Prevention Tips

  • Read your bank and credit card statements carefully and often. Immediately look into suspicious charges on your accounts.
  • Cross-shred any documents containing sensitive information.
  • Use long, hard-to-guess passphrases for your accounts that include numbers and special characters. Do not recycle passwords or use the same passphrase on multiple accounts.
  • Check your free credit reports annually to ensure that no one has taken out a loan in your name.
  • Freeze your credit reports or use a credit monitoring service.
  • Do not provide personal information in response to unsolicited phone calls, emails, social media DMs or text messages.
  • Install the latest software updates on your electronic devices.
  • Use a VPN.
