twality-templeton mapThe walking and biking routes for pedestrian access to Templeton Elementary School and Twality Middle School along SW Murdock Street, SW 97th Avenue, SW 96th Avenue, and SW Sattler Street are missing sections of sidewalk. Pedestrian crossings along the routes have documented safety concerns with pedestrians and cyclists. The crossings are barriers for students to walk and roll to school due to vehicle speeds, traffic volumes, and the lack of enhanced crossing treatments.

The City of Tigard was awarded funding through the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program to address safety deficiencies on walking and biking routes to school for Templeton Elementary School and Twality Middle School.

What is Planned?

  • New sidewalk to fill in missing gaps on SW 97th Avenue and SW Sattler Street
  • American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant ramps
  • Enhanced pedestrian crossings at SW McDonald Street/SW Omara Street/SW 98th Avenue and SW Sattler Street/SW 96th Avenue
  • Intersection street lighting
  • Paved pathway through East Butte Heritage Park
  • Connect to Murdock Street Project sidepath on the north side between SW 97th Avenue and SW 103rd Avenue (currently in design)
  • Safer access to and from Templeton Elementary School and Twality Middle School
