Are You Eligible?

Owners of new businesses in Tigard who complete one of the business-focused training programs (see below) with one of the partners listed below, are eligible for a one-time, one-year City of Tigard business license fee waiver for their first year of operation in the City of Tigard.

If you’ve already applied for a City of Tigard business license and have not yet completed a program below, the city can apply a fee waiver to your next business license fee when you renew -- if you complete one of the training programs before the end of the first year in business.

Preferred Two-Step Process

  1. Business owner completes one of the business training programs from the list below within six months of opening a business or within the first year in business in Tigard.
  2. Submit your business license application and proof of program completion (a certificate or email confirmation of completion) via email at buslic@tigard-or.gov.

Summary: The Hispanic Chamber offers services to assist businesses. Whether you need help with a start up or expansion, business plans or software training, the Hispanic Chamber is here to help. We also offer small business loans, as well as guidance with contracts and procurement.

Summary: Livelihood NW provides free and low cost business consulting including drop-in 1:1 advising, workshops, long-term business support, bookkeeping training, tools & resources to underserved businesses ranging from start up to advanced growth. 

Micro Enterprise Services of Oregon (MESO)

Eligible Program: A minimum of six hours of training through Business Basics, Developing your Business, Marketing Your Business, Funding your Business, Financial Literacy for Businesses, Bookkeeping Classes

Summary: MESO brings a holistic array of services and programs to small businesses. Services include Access to Capital, Business Planning, Market Research, Individual Development Accounts, Bookkeeping, Classes, Networking, Mentoring, and linkages with Resources and Referrals.

Oregon Association of Minority Entrepreneurs (OAME)

Eligible Programs: Six to eight hours of one-to-one advising with an OAME advisor.

Summary: OAME provides free one-on-one counseling to business owners. Advisors assist each individual business owner with designing an action plan for business plan creation, administration of the business, marketing, budgeting, location and financing. Business support includes free technical advising and access to SBA secured microloans.

Professional Development Group (PBDG)

Eligible Training: Six to eight hours of training through COBID certification, group class training on construction industry topics, Mentor-Protégé Program, Cohort model training on specific aspects of your construction business, or one on one consulting for focused business issues.

Summary: PBDG provides advocacy, access to upcoming job opportunities, education and training to ensure the success of COBID certified firms in the construction industry.

Summary: The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) offers training and free advising to support businesses at every stage - from pre launch to exit - with the advice and tools business owners need to succeed.

XXcelerate

Eligible Program: 6-8 hours of one on one coaching, peer mentorship or graduation from the XXcelerator program

Summary: XXcelerate provides business support, education and pathways to funding for Oregon's women entrepreneurs, helping them to grow their businesses, connect with resources and peer support, and scale profitably.
