OLCC Compliance Checks in Tigard Yields Favorable Results Results from two recent OLCC compliance checks conducted in Tigard appear to indicate that establishments selling or serving alcohol are continuing to maintain statewide better-than-average compliance. Tigard Police once again teamed-up with OLCC inspectors in late December to conduct random checks for alcohol sales to minors. Two teams consisting of an underage decoy, an OLCC inspector and a Tigard Police Officer set out and visited 23 Tigard businesses which sold alcohol. Three of those locations failed as a result of selling alcohol to the minor decoy. Oregon Administrative Rules strictly set guidelines for the OLCC regarding such random and unannounced checks at businesses selling alcohol. Random checks are conducted periodically to ascertain compliance regarding the sale of alcohol to minors. Compliance checks may also be initiated based on complaints lodged with the OLCC or local law enforcement. This recent alcohol sales check in Tigard yielded 87 per cent compliance which is above the statewide average of 80 per cent. A similar compliance check conducted in October, 2012 yielded 90 per cent compliance. One way Tigard Police is working to combat the problem of dangerous drinking, such as underage and binge drinking, is to partner with coalitions that help educate and support our community's youth in efforts to promote healthy and substance-free lifestyles. Partnerships with the Washington County Commission on Children and Families, as well as local efforts such as Tigard Turns the Tide, are both great examples of the positive steps being taken to direct our youth towards healthy and productive lives. |
