Tigard Police Commercial Crimes Unit Puts the Brakes on Local Chop Shop After a week-long investigation, members of the Tigard Police Commercial Crimes Unit closed down an active vehicle "chop shop" operating in Tigard. After a tip which led investigators to the Affordable Automotive business located 13080 SW Pacific Highway in Tigard, six vehicles reported stolen have been recovered. The investigation culminated with a search warrant at the business on January 10th. During the course of the search, four stolen vehicles were located. A special agent with the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) assisted Tigard Police with the search effort. Criminals typically attempt to disguise stolen vehicles by altering and switching the (VIN) vehicle identification numbers. NICB experts can ultimately reveal the vehicles true identity using their proprietary skills and expertise. Aside from the four stolen vehicles discovered during the search, Tigard Police were led to a location in Sherwood whereby two additional vehicles were recovered. Today, Christopher Ford Ankeny, 46, was taken into custody by Tigard Police investigators. Also allegedly involved and charged is 66 year-old William David Plantz, previously in custody. Both men are charged with the Trafficking in stolen vehicles, Possession of stolen vehicles and Unauthorized use of a stolen vehicle. The pair resided in Tigard.
