Tigard Participates in The EV Project
Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Installed at City Facilities
On October 22, 2012, the city learned eight electric vehicle charging stations will be installed at city facilities in Tigard. The city has been pursuing funding to install electric vehicle charging stations for several years and offered to locate charging stations at its public facilities via The EV Project.
The term “EV” refers to electric vehicles. The EV Project is the largest deployment of electric charging infrastructure in history and is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy with partners Chevrolet Volt and Nissan LEAF.

Charging station sites were selected based on proximity to frequently visited destinations and the ability to connect to an electrical supply. One- or two-pedestal stations will be installed at each of the following City of Tigard locations:

Tigard Public Library
13500 SW Hall Blvd.
Tigard Senior Center
8740 SW O'Mara St.
Public Works Building
8777 SW Burnham St.
Main Street/Burnham Street parking lot
(slated for construction in 2013)
City Hall Campus
8720 SW Burnham St.
(parking lot north of the skate park)

A company called ECOtality is tied to The EV Project and has hired a contractor to install the charging stations. The installation is already underway at some locations and most chargers will be ready to use by the end of the year. Chargers will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and are able to fully charge a vehicle in four to six hours.

The charging stations will be installed courtesy of The EV Project. The city will cover the minimal cost of electric consumption and will contribute $2,000 to the project; the actual cost to purchase and install these stations is about $45,000.

More information is available online at www.theevproject.com or read the frequently asked questions on The EV Project.
